Now, more than ever, communication, community media and ICTs are drivers for social change in rural areas, facilitating access to information and encouraging farmer participation in the rural development process. To raise family farmers’ voices, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) will be hosting a series of virtual consultations on their various regional platforms. For Asia and the Pacific the e-discussion will take place here on ComDev Asia.
- Showcase the contribution of ComDev, community media and ICTs to family farming in the Asia-Pacific region through concrete examples.
- Identify main trends, challenges and priorities for rural communication services in support of family farming and rural development in Asia Pacific.
- Agree on a common agenda to promote and enhance collaboration in communication for rural development at the regional level.
|* WHAT ISSUES WILL BE DISCUSSED?
The central theme will be the role of communication for development, community media and ICTs for family farming and rural development. Questions for discussion include:
* WHEN WILL THE CONSULTATION TAKE PLACE?
* HOW CAN YOU JOIN?
The inputs from the discussion will inform a Forum on Communication for Development & Community Media for Family Farming (FCCM) that will be held in Rome, Italy, on 23-24 October, 2014 in the context of the International Year of Family Farming. In addition, a global consultation on the topic will be launched in September on the e-agriculture platform to discuss and complement the outcomes of the regional consultations.
